What is a hunt?
A hunt in SL is an event where a collection of stores get together and decide to offer something for free. They put it in an item based on a theme or common thread, and hide them in their stores for would be shoppers/hunters. People come to their store in search of the item. When they find the hunt gift, they are also given a landmark to the next shop (or sometimes a clue to the next item). When they get to the next stop, they repeat the process.

Having your store participate in a hunt allows you to introduce yourself and your products to an audience of consumers who may not have been previously aware of you or your items. People must go through you to get to the next place in the chain of stores, so it increases your shop’s overall visibility in Second Life. It’s also an opportunity for you to provide a gift for free that showcases what you have to offer to the SL community. Those who enjoy your gift, will most likely be back for more.

I’ve applied for the SL Unearthed Hunt, but I haven’t heard anything back. What gives?
You, or your requested contact on your application, would have received a FOLDER from us called "SLU Fur Up for Fall Vendor Welcome" immediately upon being accepted into the hunt. Please check for this folder before contacting us. If you do not have this folder, applied, and have not been otherwise contacted by us, please feel free to contact Jenneh Thursday or Audra Resident with an inquiry. Please note, vendor pack distribution is schedule for: October 5th.

I just got my hunt package, and it says "No Copy No Transfer" – is that correct?
Yes, that was intentional. The signs are all no transfer, and the hunt item is no copy.

The hunt item is no copy, how can I give my gift with it??
By setting the item for sale for 0L, with the option give contents, you will be able to successfully give away your hunt gift using the no copy hunt item.

I’ve received the SLU hunt item, how do I put my gift in it?
Your hunt item will be passed individually to you by a member of the SLU Management Team. Rez the prim.

It is already labelled with the correct store number and your store name. Unless we have misspelled your shop name DO NOT MODIFY THE NAME/NUMBER AT ALL.

It also has the next landmark in the hunt trail after your shop. THIS SHOULD BE THE ONLY LANDMARK IN THE HUNT ITEM. Put your landmark in your gift box, not in the prim itself.

Do not add any scripts to the hunt item (spinning, glowing, give on touch etc) without prior permission from the hunt team (Audra Resident, Jenneh Thursday, Lunatic Daffyd or Insane Audeburgh). People will be expecting the hunt item to work a certain way. If they do 50 stores with "Buy to obtain" and get to your store and don't have the 'buy' option, trust us, someone will get confused and report "a problem" to us. PLEASE DO NOT ADD ANY SCRIPTS TO THE ITEM!!

For our walkthrough, please have your hunt item out and next to your hunt sign so that we can easily find it during the walkthrough. Once the hunt starts, then hide it as you had intended (keeping in mind our hiding rules).

Do I have to put all of my items in one box?
Yes. Your hunt item should only contain one box and one landmark.

Can I change the name of my hunt item to discourage hunt cheaters/item search scripts?
No. DO NOT MODIFY THE OBJECT NAME IN ANY WAY.

I don't want to change the item name, but can I have 10 boxes/hats/fish/random things named the same thing?
No! If we find that you have something like this set up, we will remove you until you remove the false items.

I think the item is too big/small. Can I change the size?
You can make it bigger, but NOT smaller.

I am giving away 2 (or more) items. How do I put those in one box if they’re multiple items?
Box your items as normal (ie, a girls box, and a guys box), and then put those boxes in a box (ie, MyStoreSLUHuntGiftBox). Again, there should be only ONE box and a landmark in the hunt item.

Can I sell my hunt gift in my store?
Yes, but it would be best to wait until AFTER the hunt to start selling it.

Are there any guidelines for hiding my item?
Yes. Because of the sheer number of shops involved with this hunt, we need to set a few rules as to hiding the hunt object. This is to make it a little easier on the hunter ... we don't want to make them mad or frustrated ... they get mad or frustrated then they are going toquit ... and that's bad for the vendors too

(and this is really the most important one ...) NO FAKES! Please do not rez more than the ONE hunt item. Please try to not hide the object overly hard ...


YES hide it, this is a hunt after all, so we're not asking you to put it out in plain sight with great big flashing arrows (unless you WANT to).

We're only asking that you follow some stipulations when hiding it, including :

a. PLEASE if you are going to be hiding your hunt object more than 30 meters from the landing point use the Hunt Path prim provided in your vendor box.
b. NO hidden areas,
c. NO areas you have to teleport to from the main shop location,
d. NO inside walls, floors or other objects etc.

If your shop is big (and some of y'all have HUGE shops) please put out a hint poster to give hunters a more specific area of the shop to hunt for. I know some of you have shops on sims with a central TP area. PLEASE make sure to put a hunt sign in front of your shop, and if possible perhaps something at the landing site that will point hunters in the right direction.

We are providing 1 prim 'footprints' that can be used as a directional aid if needed. The hunt sign part of this rule is pretty much set in stone, the directional aids aren't because we understand that some of you have tight prim limits to begin with. If we find that you're ignoring these rules, you will be removed from the hunt immediately until the issue is resolved. Back to top.

Can I make a fake item to deter cheaters?
No. Please do not rez more than one hunt item. If we find that you are using fakes, you will be removed from the hunt immediately until the fakes are removed.

Am I allowed to hide my hunt item, or do I have to make it extremely easy?
YES hide it, this is a hunt after all, so we're not asking you to put it out in plain sight with great big flashing arrows (unless you WANT to).

My hunt item is all ready, can you come and check it right now?
No. There will be a walkthrough of the hunt. We will check your hunt item during the walkthrough.

Do I have to have my gift in the hunt item for the walkthrough?! Its not ready yet!!!
No, your gift does not need to be ready for the walkthrough, but we will still need your hunt item to be out!! If you’d like, you can place an empty box inside your hunt item, but this is not necessary. You WILL need to have the next landmark in your hunt item.

If we’re rezzing our hunt items for the walkthough, does this mean the hunt starts as soon as our item is checked?
No. Rezzing your hunt item allows us to check that it is set up properly. Please do not set your item for sale until the evening that the hunt starts. ALL ITEMS MUST BE REZZED AND FOR SALE BY 12:01PM (NOON) SLT on the start date.

Is there a central timeline of when I can expect things?
Yes! This is something that will vary for each hunt and will be included in the hunt pack.

What do I have to have done for the walkthrough?
For the walkthrough, please ensure you have done the following:
  • Rezz the hunt item
  • Place it next to your hunt sign. You can hide it after the walkthrough, but please make it easy for the walkthrough testers
  • Set it for sale for 0L$
  • Select "Give Contents"
  • If you are a large store (1/4 sim or bigger or you have more than 2 floors), please rezz a hint sign and configure it with something other than the default message.
    This will let us know that you are aware you need a sign, and that you understand how to use it.

I think I need a hint sign (or I like the idea and just want one). How do I set it up for my store?
If you are a smaller store, you DO NOT have to rez a hint sign (although you may if you wish). If you are a larger store, (on 1/4 sim or larger) you *MUST* rez a hint sign and provide a hint to your hunters on the location of the item (At least to point them in the general area of the item).

Setting up your hint sign: Rez the sign Right click and select "Edit" on the sign Double click on the script inside (SL Unearthed Hint Giver). When the script window opens, look for the line
llWhisper(0, "Please add your own hint!"); Replace "Please add your own hint!" with whatever you'd like your hint to be (DO NOT DELETE THE QUOTATION MARKS!!!) Click "Save" at the bottom of the script window Click the "X" at the top to close the script Click the "X" at the top of the edit panel to close the edit menu and you're all done!!!

In the hunt vendor package, there is a flat prim with a picture on it... what’s that all about?
The hunt path prim is provided OPTIONALLY (meaning you don't have to use it unless you are hiding the prim more than 30 meters from the landing point) to help guide your hunters to the gift you've provided. Simply rez the prim on the ground (or wherever will help) to lead the way to the item. You can stretch it or shrink it or rez more as needed.

OH NO! MY STORE MOVED!! What do I do now??
UPDATED LANDMARKS MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST GO ON A NOTECARD!!!!! A notecard entitled SLU (hunt name) Hunt – Landmark Update (shop name) will be provided in the vendor pack. If you pass one of us lonely landmark you're going to confuse us and we'll end up probably deleting it and not making the update. You can pass a notecard to Audra Resident or Jenneh Thursday. Did we mention these MUST go on a notecard?

My hunt gift is ready, who do I send it to?
We do NOT need full perms copies of your hunt gift. YOU are the one who is going to load your gifts into the hunt item ... if we do it then we can't drop it in your shop unless rez is set to everyone ... for the most part that's not the case.

I’d like my hunt gift featured on the Hunt Preview Blog Entry, what do I do?
There will be a notecard in your vendor box named SLU (hunt name) Blog Entry (shop name). Place a full perms texture of your hunt gift on that notecard and return it to Audra Resident or Jenneh Thursday (unless otherwise noted) by the deadline provided on the notecard. When we do the blog entry pictures will be displayed in random order, with no shop name or hunt order number provided. If you’d like your shop name shown make sure it’s on the texture but do NOT include your hunt order number (these will be either edited out of the texture or will not be shown on the blog).

There’s a hint notecard provided, do I HAVE to provide a hint?
No, submitting a hint for the hunt is completely optional. A hint for each shop WILL be provided on the blog site however. Shops that don’t submit a hint will be visited by a hunt team member who will provide a hint at that time. If you use a hint giver in your shop you can indicate this on the hint notecard or the team member doing hints will indicate this on the hints page. Submitting a hint notecard only makes the team’s lives easier … we appreciate that.

There’s something on the timeline about a sign walk through, what does this mean?
At some point in time between the application deadline and distribution of final vendor boxes at least one hunt team member will visit the shop of every accepted shop to check for the version 1 sign. This will be done BEFORE the hunt order is decided upon. Shops not displaying the version 1 sign will be placed at the end of the hunt.

I received a Vendor Welcome Folder but have not received a final vendor box, what do I do?
First thing to do is check the time line that’s been included in your welcome folder. If it’s past the distribution date listed on the time line you need to contact a hunt organizer to let them know. Note that distribution can take more than one day, there will be a date range on the time line, usually no more than two days however. If it’s past the latest distribution date please notify Jenneh Thursday or Audra Resident, if both are offline (and our profiles will tell you if we are online or not) please send a NOTECARD, named something other than New Note so we can find it, the preferred name on the notecard would be SLU (hunt name) Vendor Package not received (your shop name).

I still have questions, what do I need to do?
Any updates/problems/questions or any need to contact us when we are offline (and our profiles WILL tell you if we are online!) should go on a notecard ... the notecard MUST have the words SL UNEARTHED HUNT and UPDATE or QUESTION or PROBLEM in the title otherwise they may be rejected.
